COMPOSITING

Compositing in VFX is a technique where layers from various mediums come together and merge to form an image, which would otherwise be not possible to achieve by established photographing techniques. This unit was run for a mixed batch of second and third year ‘Digital Media Arts’ students. This unit encouraged students to tell stories through this medium where they can create alternative and fantastical worlds where believability is the main factor for visual sensibility and viewer experience.

Various techniques such as motion-graphics animation, green-screen photography, rotoscopy, tracking and match move, digital set extensions with matte painting, etc. are taught and used to create these worlds. Students apply their learning from other units such as ‘Visual Scripting’, ‘Character Design’ and ‘Sound Design’ to tell their stories.

Primary software used is Nuke and After Effects
